Welcome to Karlsruhe
With around 300,000 inhabitants, it is the third largest city in Baden-Württemberg. Characteristic of the original city layout are the 32 streets of the city, founded in 1715, which radiate from the palace into the parks and the Hardt forest of the Upper Rhine Plain. Karlsruhe owes its nickname “fan-shaped city” to its fan-shaped layout. Friedrich Weinbrenner’s classicist buildings characterize the image of the city extension from the early 19th century.
